Basic considerations for cruisers

Cruising is not a mere activity; it is a psyche, a lifestyle and a passion for diehard fanatics of cruises. People devote a major part of their lives to cruising, a round the world trip on a Cruise takes 3 to 10 years depending on the vessel that one is traveling. An electrically powered vessel would mean a travel time of around the world in 3 years. If your cruise is a wind powered then it could mean an around the world trip in 10 years. This could make most people frown on just the thought of spending a major part of ones live in the ocean, without any purpose just fro recreation. However, stand warned because if you present this line of reasoning in front of a die-hard fanatic of cruising then you are in for real volley of tirades.

The fun that one gets by venturing into the sea and exploring the unknowns is immense; the power of steering the vessel by oneself is intriguing as well as fascinating. Whether you are venturing in the Caribbean and moving along Jamaica or moving from Guyana to Barbados and enjoying the serene scenes with all the wonderful sea creatures exhibiting their moves for you to enjoy, the joy and satisfaction of this unique and exotic life is immeasurable.
Whatever you do, it must be done with purpose and surely with passion or other wise one is wasting his time because there is no joy to be had from listless and purposeless efforts. Likewise, if you are committed to set sail and become a cruiser there are some basic consideration, which should be in your mind. The foremost being the learning of the trade. You must first be an excellent swimmer because a sea life without the swimming skills is almost like committing oneself to a bunch of hazardous scenarios. Chances are that if you are that much involved with cruising that you want to go on a long cruising journey than you are an adept swimmer and you are looking to move up to the next level and the next level being cruising.
With the discussion of swimming out of the way, the best thing is the ability to handle one self in case of an unforeseen eventuality. It is not as important in the daily life to be well versed with the basic health care issues but if you are going to be in the sea for the extent of time that you are envisaging. Then you must be well versed with the first aid concepts; only the knowledge of first aid will not do you any good in fact you would have to go through a basic training course of first aid techniques so that when the need be you are able to handle the situation at hand. There is also the need of getting to know the basic skills of cruising as well as a basic know how of reading the maps so that you feel at home, when you are in deep waters.
With all this done, you are ready for one eventful and adventurous journey that cruising is!
